Guest Room

Back in 2010 or 2011, we had an issue where water was getting into the house in our guest room.  Turns out it was a giant hole left by the builders where the “tubes in the wall” tubes came out.  It was literally a whole in the cinder-block open to the elements.  Well, we fixed that, then opened up the drywall to dry it out, make sure there was no mold growth and then I patched it up.  But the patches were never re-textured, and the floor molding was never put back.  It was in rough shape anyway.

As of October 2015 now, we have a new baby on the way and were looking at whether or not we wanted to move to a bigger house.  In prep for that I knew I needed to get that room back together.  I was originally going to just get new molding, but I knew I’d have to re-texture the wall and paint and — eventually I just decided I wanted to redo the room in a board and batten style.

Started by covering the entire room in plastic and putting sheets on the floor.  I wanted to prototype a few things so I put together some samples in the garage to practice doing the roundovers on the corners.  After that, I painted the top half of the room and got ready to put up the panels on the bottom half.  I measured out all the studs so I could make sure each panel ended on a stud.  The panels were nailed and adhered with construction adhesive.  After that I cut down some sheets of 3/4″ MDF into strips and rounded them over with a 1/4″ roundover.  I primed the ones for the base molding since that was going to be harder to paint later.  Molding was nailed on then, using wood putty to fill in the scarf joints.  Two or three coats of primer then a coat of high-gloss white enamel and its done!

In the future, I plan to redo the floors, but the room is back in a “sellable” condition if we chose to.

Battle for Blingdenstone

Warning: this post involves the use of AI tools. These kinds of tools are highly controversial within the art community, the D&D community, and the legality and ethics of these tools is still something being figured out. We will see how it all falls out.

Until then, this is some AI Art I created wtih Microsoft Co-Pilot and Dall-E 3. It is my vision for the Battle of Blingdenstone and its what I showed my players as we played through a theater of the mind “race” to challenge the Pudding King. I’ll update this post later with the rules and results for this encounter after I run it with my players.
