I’ve finally gotten the upgraded H1+ printing. Took quite a lot of tweaking and its far from perfect, but its going.

Printrboard for H1
In my effort to get the SeeMeCNC H1 resurrected, I’ve been troubleshooting my Printrboard that I’m using as the controller. The current firmware on the board assumes you have end-stops. Since end-stops are normally closed, if they aren’t connected the board things you’ve hit the end of travel and stops any commands. So I hooked up the end-stops (although not mounted) and they all work except for the Y-axis. I found that when I hooked that up, the board wouldn’t properly boot and I couldn’t connect from Repetier. A large amount of googling finally lead me to a problem with Rev D of the Printrboard. Continue reading
MP Select Mini hot-end tear down
I had some pretty bad clogging that an atomic-pull didn’t seem to help. This means I had to take the hot end apart and clean it all out. I thought I’d post some photos for those that wonder whats in the stock hot-end. Disassembly was pretty easy; heat it up and hold the heater block with a crescent wrench and use socket wrench on the nozzle. The barrel came out without much fuss and I was glad to see the embedded PTFE had no damage.
Cleaning wasn’t too bad. I spent some time with a toothpick dipped in acetone to clean out as much as I could from the threads. At first I thought something was wrong when I saw the black on the threads but it appears from Googling around that all hot-ends look like this.
To completely clean out the excess PLA from the nozzle I took a torch to it and got it just under cherry-hot. After that, another bath in acetone. I used coffee filters to wipe everything down as that seems to not leave any residue behind.
Cleaning the block itself was done by heating it up and running the coffee filter through it, screwing it in and out several times until it stopped coming out black.
First fully successful print on the MP Select Mini
I completed my first print on my MP Select Mini. I ran out of my tiny bit of PLA filament that I had and the new reel hasn’t arrived yet. From a previous attempt to get into 3D printing, I had 2kg of ABS. ABS is TOUGH the print with and I had some trouble. Finally, I got this to print by running a pretty high hot-end temperature of 245 degc and a printer bed temperature of 80 degc. I also had to put a box over the whole unit to act as a heated chamber.
MP Select Mini 3D Printer
After finding a great deal on the Monoprice MP Select Mini 3D Printer, I’ve re-entered the 3D printing scene. This machine is great, and it was so quick to get going. I was printing in less than 15 minutes. Now, before anyone is too excited, I HAVE already managed to jam it and am working on fix it. I’ll be posting little posts here and there and documenting everything on learn about this printer to my new page for it here.
